 Name:- A.N. Bharghava Shyam

Admission Number: - MAE15007 (16-Nov-2016)

Topic Seleted: - A Frame work for writing a note on Gandhi (Krishna Kumar & Others)

Introduction:-

Mathma Gandhi: - Mathma Gandhi is father of Great Indian Nation and also remarkable sprituval & political leader. He did experiments on truth and wrote a book  “My Experiments with Truth” (Autobiography). He is great ideologist which ideologies are based on truth and Non-violence. Based on these truth and non-violence only he told about Basic Education {Nai-talim}

National movement and question of decolonizing education: -

In Freedom movement so many political leaders, freedom fighters, social reformers, etc. are revolted against the colonial power and rule, but not the colonial education system.

Raja Ram mohan Roy told that “ The Sanskrit education makes our life dark” (In colonial Education- CHOE Class)

Gandhi’s criticism of colonialism: -

Gandhi criticized the colonial rule and also colonial education. He critiqued all the western civilization. He was against to that, because of the negation towards Truth & Non-violence principles.

When Gandhi is criticizing the colonial education, most of them thought that it as xenophobia. But it is mistaken. He criticized very early, at that time all are attracted towards western civilization. When we will read Gandhi Nai-talim (Basic Education) we can understand (Industrialization as a threat to our human life in several ways like pollution & ill-health etc. by imagining only he told that)

Gandhi’s civilization critique: - (Gandhi Idea on Basic Education)

In this Gandhi’s Man versus Machine, Self- Sufficiency & locus of control at the local level.

Gandhi is saying that man represents whole mankind (Whole world) while machine represents industrialized west. He planned his basic education not only for India, but for whole globe. In his basic education, he planned to introduce productive & compulsory handicrafts in school curriculum. It takes us to radical restructuring in our sociological school knowledge in India.

In Basic Education (Nai-talim) curriculum is helpful to child who belongs to the lowest stratum of society, it helps in social transformation. For this he proposed 2 self-sufficiency things one is purely financial & another is political, self sufficient financial is related with Truth & political autonomy is related with Non-Violence.

Gandhi has Idea of “Productive School” was inspired by Ruskin “Un to Last”. In this book he get 3 messages that are, one “Benefit of all is what a good economy is all about”, second “Earnings from manual work (Example- Barber) have the same value as mental work (Example- Lawyer)” & third “one was that a life worth living was that of a laborer or craftsman”.  Gandhi practiced these ideas in South Africa.

Teachers should be free from bureaucracy, if the teachers teaches from textbook it does not influence the children that much, the teachers have to do most of philosophical work which related to social life & politics.

Basic education was made by Gandhi according to his ideal perception (A kind of utopian dream society). Gandhi treated industrialization as a threat to human society. (Our life’s are spending as fuel to increase technology, this is like creating grave for own body). The self- sufficient concept came from Swaraj which implies self-rule, & in Swaraj Gandhi told about Swadeshi by this we become independent by both intrinsic & extrinsic.

In Gandhi’s utopian dream all will work industriously, Self-satisfactory, self-respected, generous individual living in community. Be resolved his education system by keeping it in secular mode.

In his Basic Education one of most important feature is 3H’s (Head, Hand & Heart). The coordination & development between these 3H’s. Work & knowledge goes in Hand & Hand, Education through work & hands on activity and Hands on product productive work.

Similarities between Gandhi’s Basic Education & Others (Aurobindo & Rabindranath Tagore): -

(Based on my known Half Knowledge, I am interoperating)

Most of the past Indian philosopher’s is saying about intrinsic basic education. All are not in favor of western education. All are against to text book based curriculum & Pedagogy. In all these 3 articles, teachers is just acting as a facilitators and not as a tutors. All schools having autonomy, all are Indian Freedom Fighters. All established schools with some moral values. All are giving options to children in their selecting their aims.  All established their schools in pleasant nature (Nice Environment). Etc. are the similarities.

(Here all means Gandhi, Tagore & Aurobindo)

Opposition of this Proposal: -

When Gandhi started the school, all are already attracted towards industrialization (Technology), that why so many opposed this because the industrialization helps in their work to become work less & British created net of grains (Net is Industrialization, Grains are Money & Birds are Humans). Most of birds fallen in this net of Industrialization, now also all people struck in this trap and struggling to come out. This is an extrinsic aim it will gives physical pleasure. Now also we & governing body are struggling to come out beyond this industrialization (Pollution, Cybercrimes, Laziness, etc.). (We don’t like Traffic jam, but we are interested in buying new vehicle).  It also happened in the past, that why it became opposition to people.

Implementation of this Educational System: -

Implementation of this system is very difficult, because profits are not visible in this education, but satisfaction is available it is only mental situation. & to implement & to follow we need courage to follow.

My Reflections:-

My Reflection is travelling on two boats, Most of the times I feel that I want Intrinsic Education (Which gives me Satisfaction) & extrinsic education gives pleasure & comforts. But according to time we have to change, that why I think that in extrinsic education only we trains find satisfaction. How means previously I explained that no one want traffic jam, but most of the people want own vehicle. (Nice road is intrinsic & owning vehicle is Extrinsic). I can say that without keeping expectation extrinsic also becomes intrinsic, how means I don’t feel anything however road will be, but I own vehicle, if traffic jam occurs I don’t feel bad, then I can feel satisfied.

In olden days only higher caste & class people only study, but now all are studying it also change
