1.    Imagine you are a young bamboo entrepreneur who wants to start an industry for making whole bamboo furniture or agarbatti sticks. What are the essential things (forward and backward linkages) that you may need to take care to start this small industry?

 BAMBOO STICK MAKING

Ans: First we have to register our company as a cottage industry. Second thing to establish an industrial Shade. Then for backward linkages we have to look for good quality like as Jati bamboo (Bambusa nutans) we will found this raw material in North-east. It is also found in Orissa and West Bengal. We can also use D. stocksii commonly known as Marihal bamboo and also Bambusa balcooa a native of Bengal. Then we required bamboo cutting machine, bamboo stick making machine and bamboo stick polishing machine. We will procure them and established in the shade. We need two labours for above work.

Agarbatti Making:

Raw material required: Polished bamboo stick and dry woody powder of 0.5mm mesh, KNo3 powder and water.

Frist step: First make the polished bamboo stick in a bundle of fifty then deep into two percent of KNo3 solution.

Second step: Roll the bamboo sticks in a 0.5mm mess of dry powder of any woody material so that the powder cover 3/4th of bamboo stick.

Third step: Dry these coated stick in the sun. Make sure that every stick stay separately.

Forth step: Again deep the dry coated sticks in KNo3 solution and roll in dry powder of woody waste material and put for sun dry.

Repeat above steps till the bamboo sticks become five times coated.

Fifth step: Make the ten percent solution of any fragrance such as rose in a bucket.

Sixth step: Deep the dry coated stick in the fragrance solution for one minute.

Seventh step: Put the fragrant sticks in a shady place for half an hour and make sure that sticks are stay separately.

Eighth step: Put the twenty numbers of fragrant sticks in a polythyne sleeves and interlock it.

Ninth step: Put the polythyne sleeves in a printed box and sealed it.

Tenth step: Put all the printed boxes in a big storage boxes and sealed it.

Put appropriate level on the boxes and now this boxes are ready for market.

Marketing:  We will go to market place and will sell there and another way, we can approach the dealers with the products which we have made. , then if the dealers will appreciate then we will get branded tag will be able to sell at international market.

Or we can also sold our product through Village and Khadi       Gramodhyog Shops.

We can also form a group with in our own member people who is a part of the product making to sell the product in different villages or towns. As they can advertise about the products and give it to some shops for testing so that we can get lots orders for the product if they are being sold.

It would be better to have our own cultivation of bamboo so that input cost can be reduce usual as transportation and other uncertainty to procure bamboo from outside can be avoided.
