Question
1) 'The paradox of adolescence is that it can be at once a time of storm and stress and a time of exuberant growth” (Arnett, 1999). Do you agree with the above statement? Illustrate your response using suitable examples from your discussions with adolescents during practicum.
Answer
Central theme of “Adolescent Strom and Stress, Reconsidered” is Adolescence is age where being have lot of stress and storm, because of lot of physical (Bodily) changes, psychological (cognitive) changes occurs in them. They show their feelings in very aggressive way. It is the common stereotype for most of the people. But Arnett told that based on the context, they show their actions (Sukanya, 2017) (Hall, 1904).

I will agree with Arnett's (Hall, 1904) statement “The Paradox of Adolescence is that it can be at once a time of storm and stress and a time of exuberant growth”.

Adolescence is an age when people (children) will think that they have become mature, but the people (Society) will not accept them as mature guys, because of this adolescents will get stress and storm. Stress is a psychologically comparable thing, that is attached to a particular thing in a particular situation. Storm is a bodily disturbed feeling which is taken by some force. If they succeed in this they will become exuberant. Exuberant is uncontrolled emotions (happiness).

For example in decision-making, most preference is given to adults than adolescents (In my opinion it happens because adults think with responsibility, and adolescents may not understand that responsibility). If an adolescent want to buy a shirt that costs 1000 rupees, parents say no because they need to manage that money with other things. If parents buy that for him/her means s/he feels happy. If not they feel bad.

Adolescence is a contradictory age between puberty and adulthood. Adolescence is an overlapping age/conjunction age between Puberty (Late childhood) and Adulthood. Puberty is the age when physical changes occur in your body and also sexual maturity. Adulthood is an age when you mature completely. Adolescence is middle age between psychological maturity age (Adulthood) and sexual maturity age (Puberty). Adolescent age is having both stress and storm; and also exuberant growth which happens naturally, because of contractions.

For example, I am also faced this both stress and storm at one time and exuberant happiness at other time. When I was doing my Inter or +2 course, at the age of 15-16, (even though I passed in 2 years) I failed 3 times at that time I felt stressed in studying. My family, and peer group. After passing that I was exuberant. It was my personal experience.
In Practicum We did our Focus Group Discussions for two times (One with 7th Grade-girls [12-13 years] and another with 9th Grade boys [13-14 years]). In that we discussed about aims, fear, social media (Movies) and networks (Facebook, etc.) etc.

Now I want to give the examples social media and fear which gave stress and storm; and exuberant growth. We asked them who is favorite actor/actress and why do you like him/her. Their favorite actors are Sudeep, Zahir Khan, Salman Khan, Sharook khan and actress are Katrina Kaif, Deepika. They told that we like their hair style, personality, songs, dance etc. and we asked them you are interested in following those things they told yes. And some boys are following that also. If we restrict them they may feel stress. If they are getting support they feel happy.

Now we asked them some question about fear, when you will get fear, why you get fear and what you do in fear. Their answers are, when we will not do our homework, preparing for exams/writing exams, and when they do mischievous things, most of them get fear. It creates stress and also storm to them. If they did mischievous thing and parents/ teachers will not scold those means they get exuberant. If they get punishment they feel storm, if they are waiting for response means they get stress.
These are all my (With the support of reading and discussions with classmates) arguments which are supporting this statement 'The paradox of adolescence is that it can be at once a time of storm and stress and a time of exuberant growth” .

Question
2)      Do you think schools have an important role to play in shaping adolescents’ evolving sense of self and identity? Discuss with references to a wider socio-economic perspective of adolescence in India as well as your interactions with them during the practicum task.

Answer
Yes I am thinking that schools have an important role to play in shaping adolescents evolving sense of sense of self and identity.
Self- It is the contribution of physical (Public Self-Me [Sum total of a person’s]) & Psychological (Private self- I [self as knower]) attributes which are unique to each Individual. (Ankur Madan PPT-2017).

Identity is distinguishing character of an Individual (Dictionary Meaning).
As per Erikson’s Psycho-social Development theory he distinguished the Human life cycle in 8 stages. Where adolescence will come in 5th stage. Adolescence is an age where there is contradiction between Identity and Confusion (Identity vs Confusion). In this their determination (Virtue) is very resolute/faithful to what they believe, and impacts as are seen as complexity in life, logical and aesthetic perception in life are culminating factors. (Ankur Madan PPT-2017).
Based on practicum experiences and also by personal experiences schools plays major role in shaping the sense of self and Identity. In our practicum school (Florida) girls and boys are sitting separately. This distinguishes creates an Identity of Gender, I am Boy or Girl thus schools plays an important role in making Gender Identity. By seeing their bags, lunch boxes we can assume that it also making class Identity, some are good company bags and some are local bags. Forida is a Muslim school and all offer Namaz to Allah, by that they get religious Identity.
Regarding self, if they are participating in more sports, they feel self as sportsman, if they get high marks in exams they may feel self as toppers of this section. If they are not getting good marks they may self as duller. If the students can’t doubts in class means they may feel as self as weaker, thinking that teacher as self as dictator. Following the movies actors they feel self as a hero/heroine in the Movie. The self is a contribution of physical and psychological attributes. The making of self and Identity in schools is always a Hidden Intension, and it will become Hidden Curriculum (Normalizing the things than Individualizing).  In this adolescent age peer pressure, conflict with parents, it says about self. Career maturity will arises, who am I, Where I am going, which gives an Identity.
In this adolescent age they also think about self-esteem, and also who am I questions. These questions will the knowledge of self. Through that they get Identity.

Naga, this is a good attempt. I can see that you have referred to appropriate readings to respond to the questions and have made an attempt to understand them. I also see that you have understood the essence of the questions being asked. It would help if you organised your ideas better. It is difficult to comprehend your writing. Sentence formation is a problem that can be overcome with practice. Also please learn how to use APA style of in text referencing.
