Daily Reflections in Research Site

Introduction:
Reflection is a remark expressing a
careful consideration.
According to me, Reflections will come
from the experiences (Anubhavam) and feelings (Anubhuti). Before
experiencing we have some assumptions on our condition (a state at Particular
Time) and also about situation (General state of things). These expectations
will come from my mind and also from contextual environment (Friends, Family,
Peer group etc.). Before and after experiencing the situation creates a
platform for the Manas (sensory data) which will translates the
collected data to mind, that translation of data into mind is called
reflection.
My Reflections:
Before Leaving to Research Site
When I am planning to go Bihar, most of
them said precautions to me for my safety. Bihar is not a safe place for new
people, they cheat people easily and sometimes they may beat you also, most of
people are illiterates they cause inconvenience to you. So be care full in
journey and also there.
Most of the people believe in the
stereotypes, even though it’s not completely true. But this situation gave some
fear to me at the same time I believed that it’s not completely true.
Reflections from Journey
In journey, I travelled with Bihar people
only (They joined with me from Chennai). They told about themselves we are
working here, but our families are there in Bihar itself. They told there is
some bad opinion about Bihar here in south Indian people, because of some old
politics. At the same time they had an opinion that in Tamil Nadu no one speaks
in Hindi, but there we are managing with Hindi also. After going there we came
out from our stereotype thoughts. I also added some points to their
justifications by telling my experiences in our University. Like this they
strengthened my positivity about Bihar, in Journey.
In Bihar
Today I reached Danapur (Near to Patna),
there I saw 7 TC’s (Ticket Collectors) are checking the passenger tickets at
different places in Danapur Station. They are little bit behaving strictly with
passengers those who not taken valid ticket. I was surprised by seeing this, usually
I will see ticket collectors near Exit gate, but here for every 20 feat one TC
is there and asking tickets. Again I thought that why this situation is like
this, Later I started wondering whether my stereotypes are true.
While I am travelling for Sheikpura (To Friend’s
Cousin Home, Night I stayed there only), I observed that there is no Government
Road Public Transport, I felt sad regarding this. I thought that Sheikpura is
near to Patna, but more far than my Imagination, Then I felt Private travels
are also charging reasonably. (But in reality there is Government public
transport but those are particular times, here my 1st observation
& impression is wrong, but it’s not really wrong).

Day-1 (07- March- 2017) Reflections
Today I reached my research site. I thought
that it’s a small rural village, but it’s a big village. (My expectations was
wrong) Having Government organizations, (Hospitals, Schools, Offices, etc.) It’s
playing place for Bhagwan Mahavir (His Birth place is 5 km far). There
most government organizations are named in name of Bhagawan Mahavir. And
there is also big Bhagawan Mahavir temple. It’s a Holy place, here I got
peace by seeing greenery, by smelling beautiful sandal wood fragrance. I felt
happy with this experience.
When we are talking with one of the school
teacher (My Friend’s relative), he told to us that in schools while taking the
permission of your research please say
to principal that we are going to publish our research in our college Maxine,
show your superiority to them, then they will work better in that schools. By
hearing this I was wondered, I felt a moral crisis, whether to do nor not, but
finally we decided to tell to principal and not to students.
Today we taken consent forms for our
research participants permission, we roamed the village, there I saw one
following cannel, beauty of nature gave me peace. Because of exams today &
tomorrow both days are holidays. So planned to start our research in evening
times with 10th children only, with the help of one teacher one 9th
class student we went to do interview. We take the permission of them to take
interview about their aspirations. Their aspirations are influenced by
different factors, but for most of them influenced and also motivated by seeing
family members only. One is influenced by teachers, here I can my reflection is
family is indirectly influencing the career aspirations. But they are going
according to their caste based work.
Day-2 (08- March-2017) Reflections
Today also we interacted with five 10th
class students, their aims also inspired by different factors only, in this day
I want to elaborate. Yesterday and today I didn’t saw the influence of any
factors, but the children only inspired by seeing the contextual environment.
Day-3 (09- March- 2017) Reflections
Today 1st time we went to
school, we attended prayer in school, There I saw boy and girls are standing
separately, I remember my CDL, SOE and EPSS lessons about gender, (I remember
EPSS lesson school as an Organization) when girls and boys are standing
separately why we are saying as a gender differentiation, why can’t we say as
an organization. They are organized in way. Because whenever we feel diversity
we get new philosophies, if we see in a positive way it gives peace.
In school after prayer all the students
are touching the teachers feet and taking their blessings, by seeing their
tradition and respect towards elders I felt happy. It’s morally accepted there.
I also taken blessings of elders, this context awaken my tradition which is
already inside me. There it’s ok, but in APU, its possible according to place
we need to change our behaviour.
In schools we did first we had casual
interaction and games with them, we played games for building rapport. 1st
we played games with boys only. Later we started formal semi-structured
interview with students. In that students most of the girl students are 1st
generation learners only, but most of the boys are second generation learners.
Now the value of education is developing a lot in India (By seeing development
of literacy rate in India only I am giving this statement).
Here most of the students selected their
aspirations by seeing the contextual environment only. Here also children are
inspired by seeing not influenced.
Day-4 (10- March- 2017) Reflections
Today also we interacted with students as
well as Teachers. First we interacted with teachers, later with students. When
are talking with teachers they are felt happy to Gyan, because he is the
student of this school only, but now teach for him because all came after his
passed out only. There students will come to ask about aspirations with them,
and also they take the guidance of them. If the students doesn’t have any idea
about aspirations they suggest the students in which he is bright, and want to
see them as good human then after only in a good position. There the teachers
didn’t see any difference between girls and boys in study. They all are said
that we are teaching nicely.
My reflection is with whomever we meet for
the 1st time they will show their goodness only, I think it’s human
tendency (according to me). Here is also that only happened for knowing the
reality I need to stay with them. But it’s not possible for me to stay with
that people, if I want to understand truth I need to know them personally, but
here also one problem is there that is I don’t want to share my personal people
weakness with everyone. Then also reality will not be visible for the world.
It’s a unanswerable question for me till now.
Day-5 (11- March- 2017) Reflections
Today we interviewed with 15 students,
here I will reflect on their behaviour which I saw, So many children are giving
their answer for just name sake, I think they are saying willingly, but they
signed in consent form, We told them please feel us like your friend and share
your answers, for just name sake so many children are saying yes. Some children
are saying their answers with beautiful smile on their face I think they are
saying their answers willingly without any hesitations. Some will easily
connect with people, some others take a large time to talk with people. For
this we need to wait I think so.
My reflection on this is I think I failed
to build rapport with children (With help of this mini-research I am learning
to do research), For this I need to spend more time to talk casual matters,
saying about me & asking about her is not sufficient to get correct data,
after this research only I understood that why people will 4 or 5 years to
complete their Ph.D (research) I think for them time will not be constraint. As
a trainee now I am learning to do research.
12 and 13- March- 2017 Reflections
12 & 13th march are Holli
days, If we come outside the people will surely color us with mud, colors, etc.
that why we didn’t do our research. We played near our home only.
It’s my 1st experience to play
Holli like this, here my reflection went on how to save water, everyone is
coloring a lot on face and also as well as on clothes, house etc. for cleaning
these all things we need to waste lots of water, that why I don’t want to
celebrate Holli next time.
Day- 06th & 07th
(14th and 15th-March- 2017) reflections
Today we did our research with parents and
as well as students. Most of Fathers are 1st generation learners,
even though they are literates they are interested in doing cultivation only. I
like this a lot, without farmers we will not get food, for food we need to
support them, in my opinion agriculture is the one of the main sustainable work
in the society than other job. Most of the mothers are not formally educated,
but they are giving good education to their children. I like that a lot for
them. Their hosting also very nice for us. In home I saw the parent’s dedication
towards their children education. They are liberty to children in selecting
their aspirations.
Conclusion:
This Research Experiences (Reflections)
gave more personal learnings than academic learnings. I am satisfied with my
learnings.
